Hello Everyone! If I haven’t met you yet, my name is Lindsay Hedlund and I’m the new Area Director for Plano Young Life! This is my 8th year with Plano YL, serving as a volunteer leader, a part-time administrator, a Wyldlife Coordinator, a staff associate and now as the Area Director. Being on staff with Young Life in Plano has been the sweetest gift and, since I’m going to be here for a YL, I would love for you to know more of who I am in the hopes of knowing you, too: Growing up, my family moved a lot. When I was a sophomore, my family moved permanently back to Plano and I attended Shepton and Plano West (Go Wolf Pack, class of ‘07). After high school, I graduated from the best university in Texas: Texas Tech University. From there I thought I could take on the world. I had grand dreams of living in NYC or surfing in California, but little did I know that the Lord intended for me to be on mission back in Plano. Young Life wasn’t a part of my high school or college experience and I didn’t get introduced to it until after I moved back. A friend of a friend invited me to a pool party for YL- I thought it would be a young adults hang out, and I needed friends, so I said yes. Little did I know that it was a back-to-school party for high school students and my yes turned into the greatest adventure of being a part of the ministry of Young Life. I quickly began volunteering, met my best friends and future roommates, and fell in love with Young Life. If you have had asked 22 year old Lindsay if this is where she envisioned herself to be she would have confidently told you NO: she would never be back in Plano and felt confident she was not equipped for ministry staff... but, God. God had different plans for 22 year old Lindsay. Plans to grow her, use her in ways she never expected to be used back in her hometown, and to transform her life in ways that only He can. Young Life staff has been in the top 5 biggest gifts Jesus has given to me and I am just following Him as this journey continues. I am constantly encouraged by the gift that it is to enter into my high school friends lives, to be entrusted with part of their stories and to get the biggest privilege to introduce them to a life with Jesus. C.S. Lewis says it well when he says we are all fellow patients in the same hospital, in need of helping, some of us have just been here a little bit longer - that’s me, our volunteer leaders, and our committee - we are all in this together, just some of us have been a little longer to show our high school friends the way and how to navigate the halls.
Young Life in Plano, TX exists to introduce kids to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith.
